Add option to NOT flatten Substances when exporting to iClone - Currently always exports as a simple texture
DESCRIPTION:
If you apply a Substance to your character in CC2, and export the character (as an iAvatar or directly to iClone 7), it will always "flatten" the Substance into a set of simple texture maps.
When you open the character in iClone, you no longer have the ability to modify the substance in any way. All the adjustment sliders are gone, such as "age spots" or "wrinkles" or "sun tan" or whatever.
The workaround is to RE-APPLY the Substance(s) to the materials(s) inside iClone. If, after doing that, you save it as a custom character inside iClone, then those Substances persist and appear the next time you add that character to a scene. That feels like unnecessary extra work for the user which can be completely avoided.
The successful workaround proves it is possible to save a character that uses Substances.
MY REQUEST:
On the export panel, add an option to "Retain Substances" as opposed to flattening them. (Or say "Flatten Substances" - On by default - with the ability to uncheck it. Whichever way you want to do it.)
The default would be the current "flatten" behavior.
Optional extension to the request - Also add this to the user preferences so the "direct to iClone" feature could also retain the Substances.
Optional extension to the request - An ultimate solution would be the ability to selectively flatten Substances individually in the Appearance Editor area prior to doing the export. That would be great if you had some Substances you did not want to be exported.
I would like to add that the end result, however formulated, should be to give us the ability to edit in the future.
Say for example - you make a mistake and now need to go back a tweak a single parameter, like lip color..would be great to not have to redo the whole facial editing process.
Chop Chop, RL....FIX IT NOW
Thanks and Regards!
