Hinge with Eccentric Pivot (New for 5.1)

If you need a prop to rotate on a specific axis, while not around the center of the entity, such as a hanging board, then you need to set a constraint to a prop with an eccentric pivot.

  1. Apply a board. Switch to the Move tool. Turn on the Gizmo mode and you will see the center may be at the middle or at the bottom of the board.
  2. Modify the position of the pivot to the top of the board. The hinge will be applied to the pivot.
  3. Set the board as Dynamic.
  4. Click the button to open the Constraint Settings panel (Shortcut: Shift + F10).
  5. Click the button and select Hinge constraint type from the list.
  6. In the Connection section, you may connect the constraint to the bar above it by clicking the Pick Target buttons and click on the bar. Please refer to the Setting Connection Relationship section for more information.
  7. In the Limit section, set the rotating range to (X axis, Min = -90, Max = 90).
  8. Animate other kinematic objects to collide the board to demonstrate the effect of the off-centered pivot point.
