Character Creator Crash
With the lastest update that was released last week, I encountered a bug that makes CC4 crash. For some reason, the latest release reset the UI and content manager for me, so I had to resync my assets again. It kept on crashing when I tried to do that until I figured out what was making it crash. It was the newer file format for the hair. The older one (cchair) loads just fine, but the newer one (rlhair) makes it crash. I even tried to change the format to (cchair), which helped in the synching process but still makes it crash when I try to apply the hair.

Another issue with the latest release is that I'm missing some morph sliders like head scale slider. For some reason, the content manager keeps making a "Reallusion Custom" inside the "Reallusion Custom" folder. It is set as a default path. I was able to create another path to track my assets which are in the Reallusion Custom folder and not Reallusion Custom/Reallusion Custom, which is still the default path. Not sure how I used to do it in the "regedit" before but I don't see the custom path location visible there only the cache locations. As a result, the morph sliders location was changed and I moved things around to get them to show in the software.

The Daz to CC4 transform link used to import 90% of the acc. in the correct locations. Now, they all appear at the location (0,0,0).
I will try a different version of Daz which may fix it, but the version I'm using used to work.

It's not that the PNGs themselves that are saved on my local PC are not usable, it's when I save it as a RL skin texture file. So, this type of file is your property. Any file saved in this latest version of CC4 can't be used in an earlier version of the software, and I'm talking about earlier versions of CC4 not CC3. This is a big problem for anyone who wants to sell any asset. They can't even make more than one copy for each version. The files just don't open, period. There was no change in topology or UVs which begs the question, why? I don't think it's a bug since IClone has been asking for char. file conversion when I import one made in the previous release, but it doesn't asked for everything like skin texture files and just converts them to no longer being usable in an earlier version, one way conversion. It not rebaking the textures and doesn't take much time. It's like its just putting a new encrypted file format.

Update:
There was a bug fix release for CC4. This fixed the Hair issue for CC4, but IClone still has the same issue.
The update also mentions a fix for morph creation. The issue is still present with me. Creating morphs either crashes the software or just bakes all the morph sliders and creates nothing.
Others issues remain.

Update:

I've been using this software since 2018. The stuff that I've went through, and the issues I've found in the last 2 weeks were absolutely shocking to me!

The main problems I have with the latest release right now are:
-"Reallusion Custom/Reallusion Custom" is used as a default directory location.
-Lots of hair files (rlhair) make CC4 and IClone 8 crash.
-Creating any new morph in CC4 makes it crash.
-Daz link to CC4, accessory location issues.
*One more major issue that I will discuss below.

Because of all of those problems, I tried to go back to the previous version until you release a fix. Obviously, you don't provide the previous version or a way to go back. Fortunately, I have all the versions that the Reallusion Hub has downloaded across the years. For those who would like to do the same, it's as follows: You need to install the full software version and then you install all the updates in order until you reach the update that you need (You need to have all the software instillation files that the Reallusion Hub has downloaded). You can find the default location of where the Hub software is downloading those files in the settings of the software and the automatically delete files should be off.

This fixed all of my issues with the latest release, but I came face to face with a very harsh truth. I expected that I wouldn't be able to open the project files that I 've created with the newer version of the software, but to my surprise... Not just those files, but every file that I have basically used in the newer version was converted somehow to only be usable in the latest version. This include characters, morph slides, eyes, even saved skin textures that I personally made the pngs (texture) for. Think of it this way, how much is this going to affect anyone selling products on the store? People won't be able to use anything not just created "but even saved" in the newer version unless they get it! What's frustrating is if this was even a necessary move or just a monetization scheme!! What does texture maps (pngs) that I created personally have to do with software versions? Even when CC2 got updated to CC3 that came with characters that had different topologies, here was a way to convert and bake the texture. I honestly hope it's another bug, but this is a major issue and if not a bug possible me quitting using this software once and for all.

I have the solution for a Mac with M chip and Parallels. If you install Parallels Desktop 19.4.1. all problems are solved and you can use CC4 as before. This solution has cost me a week but I'am very happy that Customer Service of Parallel did much effort in solving this problem.

If you don't know how to do it, just let me know.

Hi there,

I have the same problems with Character Creator. I'am working almost a year with Mac and Parallels. I have contacted Parllels (because I thought that this program was the problem) and they told me to do:
Could you please generate a new technical report by following these steps:
1. Make sure that the virtual machine is shut down (Actions > Shut Down). If it is in a suspended state, please run it and then shut down (Actions > Shut Down).
2. Go to the virtual machine configuration (see: https://kb.parallels.com/117287) and click “Hardware > Boot Order > Advanced Settings > Boot flags”.
3. Paste the following text in the “Boot-flags” field:

video.metal=0

And then Character Creator starts but you can't do anything with it.

For me this is a great problem because I use CC4 a lot. Can we install the older version of CC4????? That will solve the problem for now (I think).

Hope to hear for a solution.
