Issue 311
Octane Renderer Plugin
There is a fatal mismatch between indigo and iClone6 in terms of Graphics card support. iClone6 leans towards NVIDIA, whereas indigo leans towards AMD. This guarantees "functional incompatibility" over the long term even with new releases of indigo, leaving iclone users frustrated and disappointed thanks to unmet expectations.

Time to make a switch? Octane renderer seems to be a perfect match for iClone and the vendor currently supports products like DAZ and Poser which are like functional cousins to iClone.

According to Otoy, if someone develops a plugin according to their standards (which they provide), they will adopt it. The only negative being that they keep the copyright. Despite that, I think having support for octane will bring tremendous long term value for RL in terms of new leads as well as the type and scale of projects implemented with iclone.

Octane is the natural "next step" for iclone rendering. Please RL, give us Octane in 6.x as a consolation for indigo dissapointments!

Further research suggests that animation needs a biased raytracer with lots of approximation and straight forward raytracing aka direct lighting.

Everything unbiased using pathtracing, bidirectional pathtracing and pathtracing with mlt (like..ahem.. indigo) will only give crawling artifacts all over the place unless you got 2h per frame.

..and while we are at it, why not have an option to render "in the cloud" as well?

ideal solution is if we have multiple render options to choose from, each having its own strengths and weaknesses. Having just one option will never satisfy different customer needs & the different hardware rigs out there in the wild.

Lets have variety:

1. iClone Native PBR
2. Octane Renderer
3. Renderman (free for hobbyists). Added to make things interesting...
4. Indigo RT

I have to disagree Rampa - "Please stop voting for this. We have such a solution with Indigo already, and iClone needs to stick to its real-time roots."

We NEED a better high end renderer, real time native is fine and does a good job but not professional enough for me. I have to do so much post-production work to get my native renders to look good they end up becoming a style which was not the intent.

As other have said I don't care how or what company you use but we need this NOW!

Keep voting

We need a new render engine period. Whether or not it is Octane, I do not care. I am so disappointed in the Indigo render for animations. In addition, it would be nice if the render engine better supports IClone lights and textures. A native render engine would be best but a plug-in is fine also. It should not take that long of a time to just send a project to Indigo. For the record, using Indigo for still shots is great as you can let it run for hours on just one frame and it will produce a realistic image.
