What are RSS Feeds? |
RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary)
is a way for websites to summarize their content, such
as news articles or blog entries, and deliver headlines,
descriptions, and links for easy, clutter-free access
to the information you want the most. The information
is delivered through a "feed." The feeds are
collected by an RSS newsreader application.
Many websites generate RSS feeds such as the BBC News
(RSS), Yahoo News (RSS), and probably your favorite blog.
You can find many RSS feeds at Technorati, Feedster, and
Syndic8.com. |
|
How to use RSS Feeds? |
To receive and view feeds, you need some form of feed
reader that can parse the raw XML and then display the
feed into a readable form. There are two general types
of feed readers: Web-based services and desktop clients.
Web-based services provide either a personalized Web page
that retrieves content based on user preferences, such
as www.bloglines.com or newsmonkey, or a searchable Web
page, like Feedster.com. |
