If this was to be adopted, it would have to be via an option that could be turned on or off.  Big projects take (increasingly) longer to save and I have a fairly well developed "left hand Save twitch" that I invoke when I want it (ie I use the keyboard shortcut).  If this was an always-on option, it could become amazingly annoying if it thought it knew better than I did.
