If there are frames before the audio for speech and the first phoneme has a keyframe that opens the mouth, then the mouth will slowly open until it reaches that first phoneme.
You have to keyframe every first phoneme with a NONE type keyframe to prevent this.
What should be corrected is the mouth must not be affected by any viseme that is not in the range of the sampled audio.
Attached is an example of this bug.
You can see the mouth stays open from frame 1 till it gets to the viseme track and stay open when it is past the track. The second viseme track I added NONE at each end and then the character viseme track which allows a closed mouth before and after.
