Issue 6562
Reach keys are not baked properly
Baking reach keys, whether by saving a motion clip with "Bake Constraint Key" enabled, or right-clicking on a motion clip and choosing "Bake Reach Key", has been broken since at least iClone 7.2x.

The simplest way to demonstrate the problem is as follows:

1. Load an avatar and choose Modify -> Edit Motion Layer.
2. Create a very simple animation that causes the avatar's hips to move (e.g., simply translate the hips on the z-axis on the last frame).
3. Right-click the resulting motion clip and choose "Bake Reach Key."
4. Note that the avatar's hips are offset down on the z-axis each time you perform step 3, ruining any animation that requires precision.

It is same for me.
Right now, I think, clone is a very bad software for professional needs.
Baking not working, curves not working, skin shader in unreal looks not good.
Hope all these things will be fixed in iclone 8.

Hello guys,

do I get this right what I'm reading here. There is no way to bake the reach targets and no work around. That is pretty bad. Sorry to say that.

Soya,

Unfortunately, enabling "Animation > Motion Setting Options > Bake Constraint Key" and saving the motion clips results in the same problem (the hips get offset on the z-axis).

Hi Hookflash,

After reconfirming with the Technical Leader, update the following information:

The bake constraint key is also processed by the same Motion system, so it has the same offset issue.
This issue issue will be improved in iC8.

Very Sorry that provide the the information which without double check with Technical Leader.

Hi Hookflash,

I'm terribly sorry. This is a known issue through discussions with RD.

About the function of "Timeline > Bake Reach Key", it's used when you use reach effector, you need to bake the motion.

Please refer to the online manual of Reach Effector:
https://manual.reallusion.com/iClone_7/ENU/Pro/Default.htm#iClone_7/Pro_7.4/08_Animation/Reach_Target/Creating_Body_Motions_with_Effector.htm?Highlight=reach%20effector

Therefore, if you hadn't used the function of Reach Effector, we don't suggest using this function now (Timeline > Bake Reach Key). For now, the mechanism of iClone motion will make an error like you told us. This issue will improve in iC8.

Besides, if you want to use the function of the bake constraint key (Example: You make a motion that a hand to reach desk, and you want to bake the motion result)

We suggest using "Animation > Motion Setting Options > Bake Constraint Key".
Please refer to the online manual:
https://manual.reallusion.com/iClone_7/ENU/Pro/Default.htm#iClone_7/Pro_7.4/08_Animation/Baking_Constrain_Keys_into_iMotion.htm?Highlight=bake%20reach%20key

Thank you for reporting this issue.

Soya,

Thanks for the update. Any chance we could get a timeline on a fix? Unfortunately, this issue makes iClone unusable for me right now.
