Merging of Custom Folders from CA4 into CA5 (and search function) is Faulty
Hi, I've found 3 problems with merging our CA4 content into CA5.
1) Nearly all files fail to transfer. eg: ============================= Situation: I have been making my own characters, scenes, props and motions, since early CTA3.
So in CA4, my Custom Folder has grown to 15,560 Files in 1548 Folders, totaling 73.3gig.
Then during installation of CA5, and twice again afterwards, I have tried to merge my CA4 custom folder into CA5.
But the most I can merge into CA5 so far is only 6.77 gig, comprising of only 1391 files in 313 Folders...
So there is still a whopping 66.53gig missing... which means I can't use CA5 seamlessly yet for commercial purposes, because the process of finding content is too tedious.
2) The Folder naming system is redundantly repetitious, which results in: ===========================================================
i) a lot of precious time wasted needlessly clicking redundant folders... eg, if I want to browse my Steampunk Projects, I need to click, Custom Menu, then choose Project... okay, that's fine... but then I also need to choose a second "project" folder INSIDE the Project Folder... as if anything else could be in there... and then ANOTHER folder called Cartoon Animator 4 Custom... (which makes no difference after folders are merged)... And it's the same problem with props and scene folders.
ii) makes the path name waaaaaaaaaaay too long during backups to a spare drive for over 7000 of my files... Backing up to spare drives in a fire-safe (in addition to cloud) location is a critical regular step in our professional studio, so by forcing us to use so many redundant naming sub-folders... and with such needlessly long names as Reallusion Custom and Cartoon Animator 4 Custom... instead of just abbreviations like "Custom" and "CA4 Custom" ... especially since the files are already inside the CA5 folders... so we are already inside a Reallusion Folder for everything, we don't need to waste so much data and time on redundancies.
Example: I'm a pro studio with multiple clients, and a lot of exclusive and non-exclusive custom content for each of their projects... So I need to sort everything into folders for Client Name, Project Name, Genre (so non-exclusive Steampunk/Sci-fi/Dinosaur content can be used across multiple clients).. then also Internal or External Scene type (according to scripted scenes), and asset type... so, for example... a wall clock with a specific client's logo on it, would need a naming path chain akin to:
(hence, it doesn't take much for the naming paths to become too long for backups to external drives, if developers have failed to be considerate of such needs during construction of the content manager).
... and which might be easier if the Search Bar could find the clock by client name or with a filter for the word Clock... which brings me to the 3rd problem;
3) The Search Bar is not always able to find the names of content in the custom folders, even when I can find them in the Custom folders manually. (Not counting the 66.53 gig which fails to transfer.)
Please note, I have also tried to manually merge the old CA4 custom folders with the new CA5 Custom Folders... but alas, the sub-folders don't exist individually in CA5 until AFTER we have saved our first asset of each type manually from inside CA5 on a case by case basis, so knowing how to name them manually is fraught with difficulty... eg the CA4 Image Layer folder has no space between words AFTER it is merged into CA5.
... And even for the folders which DO merge manually from CA4 Custom into CA5 Custom, the Search function still can't always can't find them... only sometimes, but I can't see any pattern which might assist with your fault-finding, sorry.
Also...
As a minor additional Glitch: ======================== Deleting a search term from the search bar does not automatically clear the search-bar. We also need to enter the word "All", I discovered as a work-around via desperation in trying to clear it so I could search everything again.
Sincerest thanks in advance for any advice or assistance in resolving these issues, if possible.
Something else, which may be relevant:
In the CA5 Custom/Video folder, I added some mov files manually using windows explorer. (After bringing them from my laptop to my main PC via USB).
But when I look in the folder... AND AFTER I CLICK REFRESH A FEW TIMES... the Custom Video folder still appears to be empty in the Content Library.
