Maya viewport navigation
iClone's lack of Maya navigation in the viewport is painful when you work with other packages as well. Most other 3D programs and game engines have implemented a "Maya mode", where Alt+Left Mouse = Orbit, Alt+Middle Mouse = Pan, Alt+ Right Mouse = Zoom.

iClone has copied most of the Maya navigation, i.e. Q-W-E-R to select tools and F to focus, but iClone then swaps the left and right mouse buttons for navigation, and it's really a nightmare. Maya navigation is such a standard, and is motor-memory for many millions of animators, that using iClone is like driving a car where the gas pedal and the brakes are swapped. After weeks of trying, I'm still fumbling around like an idiot in iClone's viewport.

I really implore you to do what everyone else has done, and have a (X) Maya Viewport Navigation checkbox somewhere in the preferences that remaps the mouse buttons.

This is not just a minor preference from someone who wants to have the software serve his habits. Every other program offers this because Maya navigation is exceptionally smooth, and it's a standard, so you can go from environment to environment without having to fundamentally relearn possibly the most important motor memory. This is as difficult as constantly going back and forth between different international keyboards.

iClone's navigation is only good if you only *ever* work in iClone.

I've tried to use HydraMouse to remap mouse buttons to bring some sanity back. But it crashes a lot.

If you recognize that all other 3D packages have converged on having this option, the actual coding to implement this is less than half an hour. It's a checkbox in Preferences, and the code to respond differently to mouseDown events when Alt is pressed.

I totally agree with you perholmes, can't believe after 4 years they still don't provide this option. Im currently testing iclone 7 with their trial version, things look good, but the viewport navigation is a nightmare. I am willing to pay for 600 bucks to buy the program, but I just can't tolerate the fact that they don't provide a Maya navigation method. Isn't it really that hard to add this ? Reallusion?
