Issue 6854
Daz3D Character Hair becomes incorrectly transparent with Fog or Dust Storm Particle Effects
It seems Daz Characters are not rendered correctly with some of the particle effects in IClone. Both Dust storms and fog make the character's hair transparent. I don't have this issue with CC characters, but basically just Daz characters who have been imported through 3dXChange and into IClone.

View this project file with Camera_01_Intro from frames 1240-2200 and you can see what I am talking about. The hair on the character can be seen but then the top portion of the hair disappears and all you see is the bottom half of the hair. Then it fades back in periodically.

If you turn the fog particle effect off, everything seems to be fine.

Turning the Alpha Threshold on the HairUpper will work but it looks terrible. Would prefer that this is fixed if possible as I can't seem to use any particle effects with Daz Characters.

Hi Molly, just an update:

Version 7.8 seems to have fixed my issue with the new Order-independent Transparency feature. I haven't turned off the setting and re-loaded IClone to test if that was indeed the resolution, but it seems like that new feature is fixing my Daz character's hair from being transparent.

A million thanks!

Hi Molly,

Looking forward to the next version! I do have the Digital_Human Hair Shader being used for the DAZ character hair. I may have found a work around for now that may suffice. I turned on "Refraction" for various parts of the hair and while it's not as smooth as with it turned off, it may suffice enough for now.

Thanks,
James

Any updates on this one? I've got quite a few scenes that are waiting to be rendered but can't because of this problem.

Attached are two photos as well. With the auxiliary light, you can see that the character has a full head of hair. When the lights are activated and the fire/smoke effects are working, you can see how the hair fades. Note that this only happens on my DAZ3D character, (on the left), and the Character Creator character's hair (woman) looks fine.

Hi james_muia,

We have a special translucent treatment for hairs, but is only for Character Creator's hair, because iClone can't find Daz Hair,so if you set Daz Hair to Digital_Human_Hair,it will be found and OK.

Torch Fire particle effects are also causing the issue (if you move the character closer to the fire effects you can also see in the render that it fades the hair) so it's pretty much all different kinds of particle effects fire, fog, dust, etc. FYI.
