Issue 4061
Built-in Degrain Filtering attribute interfere with Denoiser
There is an attribute in Iray .mi files:

attribute integer "iray_degrain_filtering" 1

It set to 1 by default. I suppose it enables degrain filtering. But in a way it does interfere with Denoiser operation in very ugly way.
Please see enclose images. Both images rendered identically with 250 iterations and Denoiser turned ON. The only difference is, that for the second render I did turn degrain filter OFF by setting attribute to 0:

attribute integer "iray_degrain_filtering" 0

The improvement in render quality is clearly seen.

I would like to request to have a check box in Iray configuration panel so that we can switch it OFF.

This would allow to get a better render quality with less iterations.

Thanks

This was addressed. Although I wish to see a degrainer filter as an option in Iray settings.

As an alternative to strong AI denoiser, in some cases, this filter might be well suited.

So use either degrainer or denoiser. Users have to have a choice.

Yes, since we want to use Iray for "beauty shots," and because of the performance impacts, we need access to as many of the Iray controls as possible.

That's a big difference! Much better with it off for the denoiser.
